Adventures in Taste showcases unique and memorable culinary and wine tourism experiences authentic to Nova Scotia’s culture, heritage and lifestyle.

Overview

Adventures in Taste is a culinary tourism program developed in joint partnership between the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Taste of Nova Scotia and the Winery Association of Nova Scotia. It is a collection of culinary experiences linking producers, fisheries/agri-tourism providers, wineries, Taste of Nova Scotia restaurants and accommodations throughout the province.

Increasingly, travellers are seeking authentic and unique food and beverage experiences. They want to immerse themselves in the cultures they are visiting through engaging experiences and local cuisine is an intrinsic part of this. Adventures in Taste will provide residents and visitors alike with the much needed tools to source these unique and memorable culinary adventures.

If you have a unique and memorable culinary experience to offer than be sure to take advantage of this amazing opportunity. Please read the Application for Participation and fill out the necessary forms.

Program Objectives

  • Establish Nova Scotia as a recognized culinary destination in both international and domestic markets.
  • Create a self-directed provincial network of Nova Scotia’s culinary adventures including food producers, restaurants, farms, markets, fisheries tourism, wineries and breweries, specialty food outlets, cooking schools, festivals, events, agri-tours, packages and more.
  • Create a network of participating businesses who work together to promote one another.
  • Generate local, Atlantic Canadian interest in experiencing Nova Scotia food, wine, beverage and more.
  • Attract more visitors to the province for extended stays and increased spending.
  • Provide consumers with the resources to create their own Adventure in Taste.
  • Increase awareness of Taste of Nova Scotia and Winery Association of Nova Scotia member products and services.
  • Increase awareness and support for buying local to both visitors and local residents.
  • Promote farmers’ markets, farms and u-picks, specialty food outlets and more.
  • Foster the growth of related culinary festivals, events, tours and packages.
  • Provide participating businesses with consistent branding across all mediums including use of the Adventures in Taste logo, promotional materials, website and signage.
  • To help participants grow their business.

Target Audiences

  • Food and wine enthusiasts visiting from out-of-province who site experiencing local cuisine and wine as a key motivator for travel.
  • Out-of-province visitors with a particular interest in pursuing unique, cultural, hands-on activities associated with cuisine and wine.
  • Local food and wine enthusiasts who are looking for unique and memorable culinary experiences that are close to home and support their local community.
  • Locals and visitors alike who are looking for unique attractions, events, festivals, tours and packages authentic to Nova Scotia.

1. Members of Taste of Nova Scotia and Winery Association of Nova Scotia

Taste of Nova Scotia and Winery Association of Nova Scotia members in good standing

may be considered.

Must sell food and or beverage to consumers on location. (i.e. farm gate, store, market

or restaurant).

Must meet all the non-member criteria (outlined in section 2).

For the restaurant category, only Taste of Nova Scotia members will be considered.

 

2. Non-members of Taste of Nova Scotia and Winery Association of Nova Scotia.

Farms, farmers’ markets, food and wine festivals or food-related activities.

Must sell food and/or beverages to consumers on site. i.e. (farm gate, store, market

or restaurant).

Must have liability insurance.

Must have all licenses/regulatory approvals.

Must provide some basic information about product or business to visitors (i.e. leaflet,

poster, brochure etc).

Must have a risk management plan—at a minimum this would include first aid training/

equipment, procedures in place for dealing with emergencies.

Premises must be clean and in good state of repair.

For the restaurant category, only Taste of Nova Scotia members will be considered.

Must offer a quality Nova Scotia food, wine, agricultural and/or aquacultural experience.

Must provide quality customer service (i.e. participation in Super Host or TIANS

customer service program).

Must have visible signage at entrance to business.

Must have a washroom facility.

Must be open at least six days a week (during operating season).

Must operate a minimum of five hours a day (i.e. 11am – 4pm).

Must be open mid-May to mid-October.

Must be willing to cross-promote all members of the Adventures in Taste program.

A safe place for parking must be maintained at each site or public parking must be

clearly marked and accessible nearby.

Must maintain a website or be willing to post information to the Adventures in Taste

website.

All participants will be subject to periodic re-evaluation by a mystery shopper process.
